TSA officers have stopped a total of 13 firearms at the Des Moines airport so far this year, a nearly doubled increase compared to 2023.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced on Tuesday that the number of guns detected at the Des Moines International Airport has nearly doubled the total found in 2023. According to the TSA,

The TSA has stopped over 5,000 guns at airport security checkpoints throughout the country so far this year, with over 60 of those guns being found at Indy’s airport. According to new numbers released Tuesday by the TSA,

The Des Moines Police Department has identified the 68-year-old man who was found dead in a house fire as Mark Watson of Des Moines.

The Des Moines City Council will hold a special meeting Wednesday to appoint the city's next police chief. Des Moines City Manager Scott Sanders will announce his pick to lead the Des Moines Police Department at a news conference at 1 p.m. The City Council will then vote on the appointment at 1:30 p.m.
